Monday, 21 December. Monday
morning we bundled up and went to Gardner Village for the Elf Display and scavenger
hunt. “Gardner Village in West Jordan, Utah
contains the outlines of the once bustling early Utah pioneer mill industry and
history. What remains today is a cluster of retail specialty shops located in
restored cabins, houses and buildings nestled adjacent to the Gardner Mill.”
You print out a list of elves doing various things, then go find them. At the
end you get some salt water taffy. Temperatures were pretty cool and there was
a wind that made it colder. But we had a good time anyway. Afterwards, we went
to Kneaders for lunch (and carrot cake for Matt!)

After an afternoon break for naps and such,
we were off again. This time back to the TRAX station and downtown. We had 5:30p reservations at the Garden Restaurant in the Joseph Smith Memorial
Building (formerly Hotel Utah), and we were going to visit City Creek Mall, and the highlight, the lights on temple square. We were concerned about forecast rain
and had purchased some ponchos, but as it turned out, we didn’t need them.
Temperatures were in the low 40's dipping into the 30’s before we when home. We
met up with Kira’s friend Lorin and his kids and had hot chocolate and
Kneaders in the mall.
